The houses around the wall incorporate the space between the two "skins" of the casemate as extra rooms at the rear (4). Their basic pattern is known as the three roomed house, the pillars (3) supported the roof or upper floor and separated the area into two rooms. Area 1 was the kitchen and contained stairs leading up.
